Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza reaches 4,651

By Ikram Kouachi

The death toll in Gaza due to Israel's ongoing bombardment has climbed to 4,651, including 1,873 children, the Health Ministry in the besieged enclave said Sunday.

In a statement, Ashraf Qudra, a ministry spokesman, said that 1,023 women were also among the people killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since Oct. 7.

The number of injured has risen to 14,245, the spokesman added.

The conflict in Gaza, under Israeli bombardment and blockade since Oct. 7, began when Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air. It said the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers.

The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

More than 1,400 Israelis were killed in the Hamas attack.

Gaza is experiencing a dire humanitarian crisis, with no electricity, while water, food, fuel, and medical supplies are running out.

On Saturday, a humanitarian aid convoy began entering the Gaza Strip from Egypt. It was the first aid delivery to Gaza since armed conflict broke out between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7.

31 mosques destroyed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since Oct. 7

At least five more mosques were destroyed in Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday, bringing the total number to 31 since Oct. 7, the Gaza-based Endowments and Religious Affairs Ministry said.

"The number of mosques completely destroyed since the beginning of Israel's attacks on Gaza has increased to 31," the ministry said in a statement Sunday.

On Saturday, it also highlighted the Israeli bombardment of several civilian sites such as the ministry's headquarters, the ministry's Quran radio station and a church.

It said that 10 employees from the ministry lost their lives in these attacks, and others had been injured.

Israel's indiscriminate bombardment of the Gaza Strip, in response to the Oct. 7 surprise Hamas incursion, have also targeted other places of worship as well as hospitals.

Earlier Thursday, scores of people were killed and many others injured after Israel targeted a Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza.

The Church of St. Porphyrius, one of the oldest churches in the region, is located in Gaza's southern Zeitoun neighborhood, only 250 meters (820.21 feet) away from the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, which was targeted in a ruthless airstrike on Oct. 17 that killed hundreds of people.

Casualties reported as Israel strikes refugee camp market in Gaza

Scores of people were killed and injured after Israeli forces targeted a marketplace in a refugee camp in central Gaza in airstrikes on Saturday, the blockaded enclave's interior ministry said.

"There are fatalities and a significant number of injuries in the Israeli army's targeting of the Nusseirat Market in the central Gaza Strip," the ministry said on Telegram, without reporting the exact number of casualties.

Related reports from various local media outlets, including the Al-Aqsa radio station, noted that the Israeli strike targeted a store called Akel, causing it and nearby shops to catch fire in the marketplace, which is located in the Nusseirat Refugee Camp.

The situation was compounded as ambulances faced challenges reaching the market in the wake of the Israeli airstrike.

The conflict in Gaza, under Israeli bombardment and blockade since Oct. 7, began when Palestinian group Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air. Hamas said the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers.

The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

Officials have said that more than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed in the conflict. Earlier on Saturday, a humanitarian convoy of 20 trucks began to enter the Gaza Strip from the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing, the first since the armed conflict broke out between Israel and Hamas on Oct. 7.

Civilians who don't leave N. Gaza to be treated as terrorists: Israel

Israel's military will consider civilians who do not leave northern Gaza in defiance of an evacuation order as partners of "terrorists" and may kill them, according to warning messages dropped by the army on Saturday.

The Israeli aircraft dropped "urgent warning" flyers into the besieged enclave, urging Palestinians in northern Gaza to move south.

"To the residents of the Gaza Strip," the Israeli army wrote.

"Being in the north of the Gaza Valley puts your lives in danger," it said, adding that, "anyone who does not go to the south of the Gaza Valley and chooses not to stay in the northern area may be killed as an associate of the terrorist organization."

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed that the statements written on the flyers belonged to the Israeli army.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli military ordered the immediate evacuation of the Al-Quds Hospital, "in preparation for bombing."

Twenty hospitals in northern Gaza were also ordered to evacuate on Saturday.

Gaza is experiencing a dire humanitarian crisis, with no electricity, while water, food, fuel, and medical supplies are running out.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an "immediate humanitarian cease-fire” to ease the "epic human suffering."

At least 4,385 Palestinians, including 1,756 children and 1,000 women have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza, while the figure stands at more than 1,400 people in Israel.

Gulf, Southeast Asian nations call for cease-fire in Gaza

At their 1st summit in Riyadh, leaders of two blocs call for 2-state solution to end conflict in Palestine

The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Southeast Asian nations on Friday called for a “durable” ceasefire in Gaza as Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian enclave nears its second week.

The call was made by the leaders of the GCC and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as they held their first joint summit since the two blocs established relations in 1990.

In a joint statement condemning “all attacks” on civilians, the two blocs urged “all concerned parties” to ensure the most effective and efficient access for humanitarian aid, and relief supplies, basic necessities and essential services, as well as the restoration of electricity and water.

They called for the unhindered delivery of fuel, food, and medicine throughout Gaza – urging that Israel’s “total siege” since the start of the conflict be lifted immediately.

As the conflict has raged since Oct. 7, the leaders also called for immediate and unconditional release of civilian hostages and detainees, especially women, children, the sick, and the elderly.

The two sides also urged all parties “to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict with a view to realizing the two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders in accordance with international law and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”

Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf Qudra said Friday that the death toll in Gaza due to Israel's ongoing bombardment has climbed to 4,137, including 1,524 children and 1,000 women.

The number of injured has risen to 13,300, he told a news conference, adding that over 1,000 others are missing.

The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, along with stepping up raids and arrests in the occupied West Bank.

Officials have said more than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed in the conflict.
